Dogen Kinowaki studied the flute under Matahiko Takeda, Kim Chang-Kook, and Junzo Hosokawa. He launched his performing career in the field of contemporary music, and has been awarded Idemitsu Music Prize and Arion Music Prize for his contribution to the field. He leads his own flute ensemble NOZZLES both as a composer and a flutist, in search of new possibilities for the instrument. He is currently teaching at the Tokyo University of the Arts.
